Healthy families are essential building blocks to any flourishing society. Todd supports legislation that seeks to uphold the sanctity of life and promote traditional family values that are important to Kansans. Whether it is co-sponsoring bills that encourage adoption of children or supporting the elimination of the marriage penalty tax, Todd believes that Congress should pass legislation that is family-friendly.
Unborn children and the sanctity of life
Todd's position on laws that support aborting children has been clearly presented throughout his public life. He is pro-life and believes God is the giver of life. Votes on abortion will come to the House Floor in several different ways, but under the current Roe v. Wade framework these votes will focus on two main areas: use of federal funds for abortion and allowing state regulation of abortion. Todd opposes any use of tax-payer funds to pay for this highly controversial procedure, and under the current constitutional scenario he supports allowing the States to place restrictions whenever deemed appropriate.
Partial-birth abortion
Todd was a strong supporter of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban that was signed into law by President George W. Bush. He believed it was a positive step in our country's respecting the sanctity of life. Regardless of whether a person is pro-life or for abortion rights, Todd believes that the partial-birth abortion procedure is morally indefensible. While every abortion sadly takes a life, a partial-birth abortion violently takes a baby's life as he/she emerges from the mother's womb while literally still in the birth canal - only a few inches from a completed birth. There is never a medical reason to perform a partial-birth abortion, and it is Todd's hope that this ban will make parents-to-be think twice before deciding to abort their baby.
Defending traditional marriage
This nation once again finds itself wresting with monumental social questions of family. The way in which we choose to answer these questions will have far-reaching consequences upon ourselves and our descendants.
