WASHINGTON—U.S. Representative Todd Tiahrt (R-Goddard) tomorrow will be returning to Washington D.C. to join Republican colleagues in calling for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to return from her book tour and call the House back into session. Republicans are asking for a vote on legislation that will lower the price of gas by promoting conservation, more energy production and investments in renewable energy.
"The number one thing constituents are asking about is the high price for gas and diesel," said Tiahrt. "House Republicans are united with the majority of Americans and have vowed to stay on the House floor until the Speaker gives us the energy vote the American people want—a vote on an "all of the above" energy solution that includes conservation, production, and innovation."
Since last Friday, House Republicans have rallied on the floor of the House with hundreds of American tourists visiting our nation’s capital. Instead of allowing an up or down vote on an energy relief package for American families and small businesses, the Speaker decided to adjourn the House for a month-long break.
On Wednesday evening, Tiahrt conducted a district-wide energy telephone townhall to listen to constituent questions and concerns about the rising costs of energy.
"Kansans are asking for solutions today. They are growing weary of paying high prices for fuel. And when winter hits, many families are going to be hit with dramatic spikes in their home heating bills. Congress should interrupt its vacation, just like many Americans have had to do this summer due to skyrocketing energy costs."
