Receives two standing ovations WASHINGTON—U.S. Representative Todd Tiahrt (R-Goddard) today received two standing ovations while speaking from the House floor on the need for a comprehensive energy plan to lower gas prices and reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil. Tiahrt was cheered by hundreds of visitors from the visitor’s gallery and floor of the House after giving an impassioned speech about the need for energy freedom in America.
Tiahrt returned to Washington, D.C., to join Republican colleagues in calling for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to return from her book tour and call the House back into session. Republicans are asking for a vote on legislation that will lower the price of gas by promoting conservation, more energy production and investments in renewable energy. "We could have a comprehensive energy plan sent to the President’s desk this month," said Tiahrt. "We should pass a plan that includes conservation, production, and innovation to help America become more energy independent. We desperately need energy freedom in America – that was my message today and the reason I flew back to Washington to participate in this historic event. Speaker Pelosi needs to understand the struggles families and small businesses are facing. She needs to stop signing books and call the House back into session so we can take an up or down vote on a comprehensive energy plan to lower gas prices for my constituents. "My colleagues and I are here ready to work in the Capitol on a bipartisan plan for an ‘all of the above’ energy bill. But Speaker Pelosi and her leadership team are nowhere to be found. The American people want a vote today—not when Speaker Pelosi gets back from her vacation." Since last Friday, House Republicans have rallied on the floor of the House with thousands of American tourists visiting our nation’s capital. Instead of allowing an up or down vote on an energy relief package for American families and small businesses, the Speaker decided to adjourn the House for a month-long break. |
